Beretta USA has been aggressively updating their product line. Earlier this year they bought Chaphuis-Armes, French manufacturers of the world class Manurhin MR73 Revolvers and have begun importing them into the US. Now they have introduced two new upgrades to the 92 series of pistols the M9A4 and the RDO. Compact Red Dot Optics are all the rage now with service pistols, just about everyone has one now that is adaptable to using a red dot optic. Beretta 92's have been left out -- mainly because of the difficulty of milling a slot in the slide to mount an optic. The design of the 92 series slide imposes many engineering challenges for mounting a red dot. The only alternative was to use a mounting plate that would attach to the dovetail slot of the rear sight. The problem with that is the optic sits too high on the slide and it it tends to work loose. Now it appears that the problems have been worked out and Beretta is now offering 92 Series pistols that are truly "red dot ready". www.beretta.com/en-us/92x-rdo-full-size/www.beretta.com/en-us/m9a4-full-size/
