100 years ago on the 11th hour, the 11th day, and the 11th month of 1918 "The War to End All Wars" ended. Veterans Day celebrates all persons in all branches of the armed forces who have served and worn the uniform of our country in war and in peace. Originally it started out as Armistice Day but Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954. It is celebrated as Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth of Nations and is symbolized with the red poppy due to the poem "In Flanders Fields" written during WW-I by Canadian Army Physician Lt Col John McCrae.
Veterans Day celebrates the veteran and Memorial Day honors those who gave all. Notwithstanding that its worth printing "In Flanders Fields"
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
