Position has been filled. Doug Garner, a frequent shooter at our local matches has agreed to give it his best. I believe Doug will be scheduling two or three matches for the first half of the year, see how things go and then look at a schedule for the second half of the year. I know if Doug organizes and puts matches on as well as he shoots he will do a great job. I am looking forward to helping Doug get his first match on the books. Watch these pages as well as the Otto Road Shooting Range Web site for more updates.
I spoke with Otto Road Shooting range manager Hank this morning. I told him that after 6 years of running the long range rifle program I was ready to turn it over to someone else. Back in 2013 we were just feeling our way and matches were pretty simple but well attended. Matches have become a bit more complex. We have assembled a good inventory of target plates and stands and a few strobe light hit indicators. We now have the ability to shoot out to over 1,000 yards and the walk about matches have been great. Looking over my record of scores starting back in 2013 it was hard for me to believe 48 matches have been held. Wonder how many rounds were sent downrange in all those matches?
So anyone interested in picking up this volunteer position please get in touch with me or with Hank at the range. I will do whatever I can to help anyone wishing to give this a try.
Their is no formal job description but having experience as a competetive shooter and having NRA range officer certification goes a long way.
Thanks shooters, I had a fun time, I hope you did also.
