Well, almost 2 years later I finally decided to clean the silencerco sparrow. I bet I have about 1500 rounds through it at this point, almost all of it was eley match. Taking it apart was easy enough, lots of gunk fell out right away and rather than soaking it in CLR or the dip solution (50% Vinegar and 50% hydrogen peroxide, which creates a biohazard) I just stuck it in the SS tumbler with some dish soap for about 6 hours. The results were great, probably could have left it in for an additional 3 to 4 hours but it got the majority of the stuff off. Before I took it apart the weight was 2951 grains, and after it was clean enough for me it weighed 2869 grains. I did not put the outer sleeve in the tumbler but I put everything else in. The media wore off the majority of black finish but left this really sweet gunmetal gray color behind (I dig the result). Glad I don't have to clean this sucker for another 2 years. Attached are the pictures of the before, forgot to take pictures of the after but it is clean either way. You can see the color at the next 22 match if you stop over and look at the end cap of the suppressor.

I've go a silencerco sparrow also. I love it but to be honest I haven't cleaned it yet. I've only got about 800 rounds through it so no hurry. I've been using GemTech through it. I found that it was quieter than other brands of ammo I've tried. I have a Thunderbeast coming probably in March, filed paperwork last May so should be soon. I want a can for .223 and 9mm but didn't know how quiet they would really be. Anyone have any experience with them?

I own a saker 762, a thunderbeast 9cb, a 45 osprey, a 30 harvester (until Jeff gets his paperwork back). And my personal experience is...hearing safe is hearing safe. for me (and im def) its hard to hear the difference in a few decibels once it gets back behind the hearing safe line. For me its all about multifunction, lightweight, and compact now. I've had my eye on the Thunderbeast ultra 5 series for this very reason.
When looking at rifle cans I will always go with a 30 cal can so I can shoot just about anything through it (223, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm) but thats back to myself looking for multifunction. As far as pistol cans go, I've shot a lot of different brands and they all are about the same. Look at the mounting options they offer and go from there. I like the octane and osprey series because they use the same mounting system AND they make a 3 lug for them, which is big for whenever I win the lotto and buy a MP5.

I've cleaned my Sparrow a few times with the dip, and while it works great, it does create Lead Acetate. I've read that you can cause the lead to precipitate out into a less dangerous solid form by adding a solution of magnesium sulfate (epsom salts). It seemed to work, as there was a reaction of some kind, but the subsequent taste test was inconclusive.
Are you going to try soaking your baffles in silicon based brake fluid (DOT 5?), Folks claim that the lead doesn't stick to the baffles nearly as well after they are so treated. Thinking about giving it a try...
