Thinking about either getting a dedicated 22lr upper or buying just the conversion kit. Money is not a factor for me on this as the whole project will be under $500 anyway. Which do you feel is more accurate between the 2, any other thoughts?
Thanks

A dedicated upper would have a chamber & rifling that are optimized for the 22lr. I had a conversion kit several years ago that seemed to be reliable (although less than 200 rounds through it), but I was never happy with the accuracy.

I have the CMMG conversion. I shot it at the July 22match. IT cycled fine ect.. However it leaded up my barrel. Since I don't like the idea of leading my ar barrel, I stopped using it and actually bought a 22. I was using copper plated CCI mini mags 40 grain. Not sure of the cause, nor do I care. But as mentioned above it might be the cambering or the rifling.
By the way it is for sale. lol

I've looked into the same thing before and ended up buying a dedicated 22 AR-15 instead.
Conversions and 22 uppers, from what I was researching at least, cost way more than what I could buy a 22 rifle for. Not sure why you want one but I was looking for a fun competition gun and something to shoot varmints with so I went with a M&P 15-22. Plus I was able to set mine up exactly like my 5.56 AR-15.
The M&P 15-22 is extremely reliable and will fire all 22 ammo (if you're a little diligent about loading the mags). So that's what my recommendation is.
Almost forgot but it's also suppressor ready.

Thanks for all of the input guys.
I want to get one for 22lr because I want to shoot steel at close range with it. Ive been looking at a 9" dedicated upper so I could put it on one of my registered lowers ad run my suppressor on it, but I wasnt sure if I just got a conversion how bad the leading would be. Based on the advice Roadking had about the leading I dont think I want to gunk up my 11.5" upper. Also didnt know how bad it would mess up the gas port since a dedicated 22 upper doesnt have one and its all blowback operated.
I think I will just go with the dedicated upper, now to find one that is a shorty. Ive been looking at the CMMG PDW upper but cant find it in stock.
