this past summer at various shoots in Cheyenne I had a chance to speak with a bunch of shooters new to defensive pistol, steel or action pistol. Several new shooters were limited in the amount of shooting they wanted to do because of high ammo prices and not having yet started reloading. Contrary to the advertising hype you do not need to spring for a Dillion or other high priced reloading outfits to get started. Their are several less expensive options out there and they all make ammo as good or better than what those high priced progressives can put out. So if you have been hesitating, and as a result not shooting as much as you would like, consider starting small. Winter is a good time to jump in, not as much shooting going on and a good way to learn more about the ammo you feed your favorite firearm. I know we have several reloaders on this site that would be more than happy to answer questions or just help guide you on your way.

I just received my dillon rl550b about 2 weeks ago, after running my RCBS for 2 1/2 years what a great single stage press that i will still use for many years to come. And personally i have to say yes on the dillon,But it may not be for all reloaders. In my experiance i have saved hours upon hours of reloading cause of work and 4 young ones at home.So time is short lived on the reloading side of things for me.I found i can load 400-600 rounds an hour,im an overprepper when it comes to reloading. I take many steps that most probably do not (my preference). So the prepperations i take in reloading it benefits me. The dillon 650 i thought was a little to fast for me. i wanted to have a little more self control of my reloads, i feel i get that with the 550. loving it.IMO for the new reloader, If you acknowledge that this is what you'll be doing for years to come i recommend a progressive press for sure.
