Yeah, that's what I've been looking at. Under $300 for the combo & sturdy enough for a lot of uses.

By the time you get the tripod, ball head with QD plate (Arca attachment), and the pig saddle, you are at $470.00 with shipping. The RRS TVC-33 (pretty much the gold standard for shooting tripods) with the leveling base and Arca clamp, you are at $1275.00 with shipping. Is it worth $805 more for the RRS? I have shot off of some HOG/PIG saddle setups and also off of some direct mount RRS setups. If it were me, my money is still going to RRS. Yes, I do think it is 3 times better. That being said I have never used this exact setup, but in my experience, the limitation is the PIG saddle. The direct mount options are just more stable for shooting. However, the Shadowtech option would allow you to either, plus you can hold just about anything that will fit in the PIG saddle, so... there is that.
You should get one and let me try it. It's really a win-win.

My thought was the tripod and pig saddle only as a starter rig...so $260ish. Then when we start really putting them through the paces and want to upgrade I think you could sell the setup for $200. So you lose $60 but you might save that in using that setup and waiting for a used RRS rig to come up for sale...Like when #nodeboy wants to buy the newest air suspended shooting rest they will come out with in 2019....

I’m thinking these will not be allowed during walkabout shoots, seems like they lend too much to the shoot becoming an equipment race. But you could use them at other shoots.

The good thing is it's your money and this is America, so you can spend it on anything you want. Myself, I would rather spend $287.65 on some pogs and a new slammer. You get what you pay for, you can mess around with junk and upgrade later or you can just go straight to the good stuff. Plus, anything made of carbon fiber is cooler, you should know this by now.

The PIG saddle sits at the apex of the tripod, making it more stable than the addition of a ball head which would raise the rifle several (4-6?) inches over the apex.

Actually, the RRS with the leveling head also sits at the apex of the tripod. The problem with the PIG saddles is just inherent to the design, anything that is universal just don't work as well. You are always going to get some squishiness (for lack of a better word) from the pig saddle just because of the rubber that lines the vise. The Arca or RRS dovetail direct mounts lock up solid and have no play to them. They will be more stable regardless of the tripod under them.

Gotta admit, that does look good! (But I've got too many bills to spend almost $1300 on a tripod)
Edit: for the extra height, I was thinking of the pistol grip, ball mounts.

Found some real inexpensive front rests that could also be used in lieu of a tripod, depending on what size you bought.
